DIY: The Girly Tee!

I came across a sweet Ramones t-shirt last week at my office- score!  Only problem was that it was a size 2X-Large...wah wah.  But fear not, I decided to bust out my sewing machine and make a stop to the fabric store after work to pick up some cute lace trim and got to work.

Here is the ginormous shirt in its original state (aka the size of my coffee table):

 I basically cut all the excess fabric away to make it a sleeveless, cropped shirt to fit me.  From 2XL to XS with the snip of a scissor!

I took in the sides, hemmed the raw edges and added some girly flair to the collar.  And here is now one of my favorite new t-shirts for the price of about $1!

The Stud Project: Vol. III

 So as my stud supply has been dwindling I found a use for my final few studs.  Since I do wear a lot of heels and sometimes getting to and from work in the summer in 5 inch plus heels isn't my favorite thing to do, I decided to customize a pair or ballet flats to do my running around in!

I first saw this cute idea here, but decided spending $50 wasn't entirely necessary.  So with my last few studs, a utility knife and pair of Capezio ballet flats, I made my own.

 In order to punch the studs through I needed to cut teensy holes through the leather.

 Voila!  Super cute shoes to run around in for half the price!

The Stud Project: Vol. II

 So ever since I studded my Converse sneakers (here) I've had all kinds of extra pyramid studs just waiting to be used.  Last night I decided to put them to use on a pair of my summer cut off shorts! 

 Literally all I needed was my shorts, the studs and something flat to fold the prongs with- I used a screwdriver.

And here you have my bitchin new shorts with a studded cross on the back pocket.  Not bad for $15 Forever 21 shorts and a $4 bag of studs.

DIY: Studded Sneakers

 I've seen the studded Chuck Taylor's for sale forever but never wanted to pay the hefty price tag (I save that for the real knock out shoes!)  Hello DIY!

All you need is:

• A pair of Converse Hi Top Chuck Taylors
• Pyramid Studs with prongs (iron ons won't quite cut it)
• A flat head screwdriver, butter knife, or any tool with a flat surface

Just poke each stud through the canvas and flatten the prongs with your tool and...VIOLA!

I ended up using 27 per sneaker.  I plan on adding another row or so, but by the time I finished putting 54 in, I literally lost some feeling in a few of my fingers.  So now that I have the feeling back I can go in and add in a few more!

 my new 'Almost Famous' sunglasses from the cobra snake...they are huge, ridiculous and I heart them.

 the Jeffrey Campbell Foxy Fab in stars and stripes.  I squealed and giggled when I put them on and can't wait to make them white trash chic.

my latest project of turning my hallway into a 'studio' for my jewelry design.  still a total work in progress, I have big additions to it coming this weekend!  

DIY: Neon Necklace

This spring I have been searching for a neon colored rhinestone necklace.  I adore the Tom Binns designs and also Adia Kibur- but both are either too expensive for this gal or sold out everywhere I look.  So here is my DIY version of my neon necklace for Summer 2011.

You need:  

• A cheap costume necklace (I got mine from a random store on Broadway for $3.75)
• Paint in the color you choose (I happened to get a double whammy by using nail polish instead!)
• A small brush (I used a cheap lip brush I never use that is always at the bottom of my make up bag)

Literally, the only instructions are to paint the stones you want painted and viola!

DIY Manicure Martini

I came across a new blog yesterday (just B) and one of the many fun things I found on it was this cute DIY newspaper manicure. I tried it last night and it was quite easy! And best of all you can do your nails and mix up a martini at the same time!

In a few simple steps:

• Cut newspaper into 10 small squares
• Paint your nails in desired color and let dry (don't use top coat yet)
• Dip a newspaper square in vodka (yes, vodka) and place type side down on your nail holding for about 10 seconds. The harder and longer you press the darker the ink will appear.
• Finish off with your top coat and voila!

I used OPI in Samoan Sand as my base coat and here were my end results!



The only problem I ran into was ending up with extra ink all over my finger tips. But once my polish was dry soap and water took right care of it! Editor's note: Any flavor of vodka will work, I happened to have blueberry handy at the time!
