Friday Favorites- Birthday Edition!

Tomorrow is my birthday and in true 'me' fashion, I have been preparing the celebration for the past week.  Starting with a small excuse to splurge on birthday shoes!
Tan and gold booties from Topshop and Dalmatian printed wedges from Free People
Blue Sequin loafers from Steve Madden (thanks mama!) and sassy studded kitten heels by Ivanka Trump (who knew??).

Free birthday body washes from Aveda and Sephora- love a free gift!
Some birthday beauty buys- Loving the new mascara from Benefit, really adds the dramz to my lashes.  Nail polishes from Urban Outfitters.  The peach is a perfect alternative to your traditional baby pink manicure and the glitter really gives you full coverage without having to layer 5 coats on.
Best decision all week- taking today off from work to lay in my air conditioned bed to blog and catch up on my pile of fashion mags.

Then off to celebrate with friends tonight and treat myself to a spa day tomorrow!
Although at this point my only birthday wish is for the heat to break and go down a full 20 degrees!

Purple Haze- A product review

So I'm taking a cue from my dear friend at Makeup Majesty and doing my first beauty product review!  Drum roll please...
Behold MAC Lipglass in All of My Purple Life!
I'm no stranger to MAC's lipglass and I've always been a big fan.  But last week I saw that they came out with limited edition colors in the lipglass and also eye shadows that were designed by a few lovely bloggers (how amazing would that be??).  I saw this bold purple and HAD to have it.  Fast forward 3 days (as they are online only and I had to wait for shipping) and here we are!  I adore the drama of this bright purple.  It is bold and fun without being too dark or goth for summer. Thank goodness I didn't hesitate because it is now sold out online!

Check out the other colors in the Bloggers Obsession line here before they are all gone!

Chloe Sevigny for O.C. Resort 2012

"Leather and lace are old pals. But leather that's lace? There's a naughty new friend. It figured prominently in Chloe Sevigny's latest collection for Opening Ceremony, which she showed for the first time ever in a runway presentation"   -Style.com

I super love this collection.  It was shown in the gym of a parish youth center and in my opinion captures youth perfectly in a grown up way.  And how FAB did she look?  Swoon.

A Home for My Jewels

As the size of my jewelry collection is ever increasing, my need to creatively store it all has needed to increase as well!
I've kind of used my jewelry to 'decorate' my apartment in a way.  I like to look for old glass ash trays to keep jewelry in.  This one I got at a flea market.  And the hand I got at Urban Outfitters, perfect for rings.
I found these glass fruit trays on ebay that have a few compartments to fabulously fit some stuff in.
My most recent addition has been to decorate my walls with necklaces using hooks and nails to drape them.  Best part is that it keeps them from getting all tangled up!  (All of these items are part of my CB designs collection available for purchase here)

What are your tricks for storing your jewels??

Friday Favorites

New Jeffrey Campbell 'Mention' Leopard flats.  I rarely wear flats, but I'll make an exception when they are this perfect.

Now that I've mastered wearing heels with socks, these perfectly mismatched Happy Socks from Gargyle definitely require a place on my Happy Feet.  (seriously cute stuff on this site though!)
Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty book from the Met exhibit.  Need inspiration?  Look no further.
Awesome new bag of leather scraps I received from Etsy, can't wait to turn them into jewelry this weekend!  Yes I get terribly excited over a bag of someones leather scraps, hey it's the little things right?
Tan Towels!  I don't know if these alone will make me 'Look Good Naked' but I do have a nice easy glow to start the summer off with them!
'I Don't Know' by Kassidy.  With all the hot girls and boys (the band dudes) in this video, I almost want to commit myself to a mental hospital.  But seriously, check it out, you'll love the song and be singing it all day!

DIY: Studded Sneakers

I've seen the studded Chuck Taylor's for sale forever but never wanted to pay the hefty price tag (I save that for the real knock out shoes!)  Hello DIY!

All you need is:
  • A pair of Converse Hi Top Chuck Taylors
  • Pyramid Studs with prongs (iron ons won't quite cut it)
  • A flat head screwdriver, butter knife, or any tool with a flat surface
Just poke each stud through the canvas and flatten the prongs with your tool and...VIOLA!
I ended up using 27 per sneaker.  I plan on adding another row or so, but by the time I finished putting 54 in, I literally lost some feeling in a few of my fingers.  So now that I have the feeling back I can go in and add in a few more!

Friday Favorites

my new 'Almost Famous' sunglasses from the cobra snake...they are huge, ridiculous and I heart them.
the Jeffrey Campbell Foxy Fab in stars and stripes.  I squealed and giggled when I put them on and can't wait to make them white trash chic.

the skirt that I'm wearing today that my fab mommy made for me while teaching me how to sew last fall.  blue velvet, thank you mama!
my latest project of turning my hallway into a 'studio' for my jewelry design.  still a total work in progress, I have big additions to it coming this weekend!

DIY: Neon Necklace

This spring I have been searching for a neon colored rhinestone necklace.  I adore the Tom Binns designs and also Adia Kibur- but both are either too expensive for this gal or sold out everywhere I look.  So here is my DIY version of my neon necklace for Summer 2011.
You need:
  • A cheap costume necklace (I got mine from a random store on Broadway for $3.75)
  • Paint in the color you choose (I happened to get a double whammy by using nail polish instead!)
  • A small brush (I used a cheap lip brush I never use that is always at the bottom of my make up bag)
Literally, the only instructions are to paint the stones you want painted and viola
Wham Bam Thank you Ma'am!
