major moment

 via Nasty Gal
i'm not sure if my closer approach to 30 is to blame, if i am reverting to my childhood, or if i am falling back into my country upbringing, but i am majorly into all things overalls and suspenders this year.  its a style that is so comfy and unexpected, but i am finding ways to work it into my wardrobe in so many ways.  my collection has grown into denim overall jeans, thrifted overall jeans made into cutoff shorts, overall canvas skirt, and now white suspender lace skirt.  excessive?  hell no, just my summer staple of 2012.

some other fun options i'm eyeing here and here

Friday Favorites- Birthday Edition!

Tomorrow is my birthday and in true 'me' fashion, I have been preparing the celebration for the past week.  Starting with a small excuse to splurge on birthday shoes!
Tan and gold booties from Topshop and Dalmatian printed wedges from Free People
Blue Sequin loafers from Steve Madden (thanks mama!) and sassy studded kitten heels by Ivanka Trump (who knew??).

Free birthday body washes from Aveda and Sephora- love a free gift!
Some birthday beauty buys- Loving the new mascara from Benefit, really adds the dramz to my lashes.  Nail polishes from Urban Outfitters.  The peach is a perfect alternative to your traditional baby pink manicure and the glitter really gives you full coverage without having to layer 5 coats on.
Best decision all week- taking today off from work to lay in my air conditioned bed to blog and catch up on my pile of fashion mags.

Then off to celebrate with friends tonight and treat myself to a spa day tomorrow!
Although at this point my only birthday wish is for the heat to break and go down a full 20 degrees!

Friday Favorites- An Awesome Friday!

The Solestruck Fall 2011 Lookbook just came out today and I'm so excited to announce that my jewelry was used to style the models (including the colorful necklace on the model on the right)!  You MUST check out the lookbook here and CB designs NYC here!  It was kind of a dream come true to be included in this project.
My first pair of Creepers- so funky, so fresh.
A hand-me-down that was given to me in the office today.  A friend of mine shrunk this cute dress and passed it off to me- guess being a shorty does have its perks sometimes!
Last but not least my tickets to see Sir Paul McCartney at Yankee Stadium tonight!  I am one of THE biggest Beatles and Paul fans you will find so I've had butterflies in my tummy in anticipation of the big show all day!!

GTFO Kingston

I am dying over the many looks of Kingston Rossdale.  I know it's inevitable when your mom is Gwen Stefani, but seriously...GTFO!  Where do you find skinny jeans for a 5 year old?
Baby Swoon.

CFDA Awards 2011

Lady Gaga was honored at this year's CFDA Awards with the Fashion Icon Award and arrived in this custom Thierry Mugler dress.  (who doesn't love a studded thong?)  And because she's Gaga, her after party attire transformed into this.
I can't much comment on how much I like the look, as I see it as mostly costume-y.
But otherwise, here are some of my favorites from the night.
Naturally MKA, but mostly MK in this case.
Chloe Sevigny (in her Opening Ceremony line- Love)
Karlie Kloss (in Jason Wu) and Jason Wu
Yigal Azrouel and Zuzanna Bijoch- loving the orange with pink accents and cutout details and dying over the shoes.
Chanel Iman (in BCBG) the color and fit are to die.
Miranda Kerr (in Michael Kors)- did she really just have a baby?  Please girl.

H&M Fall 2011 Luxe

I am in no way ready for fall or winter coats or boots, as my spring shoe collection has barely seen the light of day. But I came across the H&M Fall 2011 Lookbook over the weekend and was just so impressed with textures and styling of their upcoming pieces. I love the pin straight hair and dark lips, the dark jewel tones and luxe looking materials they'll be using. And true to H&M form all items will retail for under $199. Hey, always need something to look forward to, right?

The Great Sock Debate Part II- Solved!

So I was originally planning to wear this outfit with tights. But finally the weather in NYC blossomed into something beautiful and I just couldn't bear to stuff my legs into another pair of tights after months and months spent in them. So last night I decided to take a trip to JCPenney on my way home to find just the right sock! I tried this look with both a light tan and a heathered navy sock. I think the tan works better. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the outcome and my heels are much more comfortable with the soft sock on. Part of me even feels like a little girl without the ruffles on her socks. What do you think?

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

I had the pleasure of visiting The Metropolitan Museum this weekend and checking out the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit. It was easily the most stunning thing I've ever seen in a museum (and I have been to my fair share of museums, galleries and exhibits).

I went there specifically to see this show but was not at all prepared for how blown away I would walk out. From the first piece I saw, my breath was quite literally taken away. At several points in the show my jaw dropped to the floor and I had no words for what I was feeling.

The exhibit was expertly curated from the music to the lighting to the room structure. Throughout the show were McQueen quotes displayed on the walls and alongside the pieces that just enhanced each look and in one room were TV screens showing various runway shows.

The exhibit runs through July 31st. It is an absolute must see for anyone that is able to make it to The Met.
