DIY: Studded Sneakers

I've seen the studded Chuck Taylor's for sale forever but never wanted to pay the hefty price tag (I save that for the real knock out shoes!)  Hello DIY!

All you need is:
  • A pair of Converse Hi Top Chuck Taylors
  • Pyramid Studs with prongs (iron ons won't quite cut it)
  • A flat head screwdriver, butter knife, or any tool with a flat surface
Just poke each stud through the canvas and flatten the prongs with your tool and...VIOLA!
I ended up using 27 per sneaker.  I plan on adding another row or so, but by the time I finished putting 54 in, I literally lost some feeling in a few of my fingers.  So now that I have the feeling back I can go in and add in a few more!

DIY: Neon Necklace

This spring I have been searching for a neon colored rhinestone necklace.  I adore the Tom Binns designs and also Adia Kibur- but both are either too expensive for this gal or sold out everywhere I look.  So here is my DIY version of my neon necklace for Summer 2011.
You need:
  • A cheap costume necklace (I got mine from a random store on Broadway for $3.75)
  • Paint in the color you choose (I happened to get a double whammy by using nail polish instead!)
  • A small brush (I used a cheap lip brush I never use that is always at the bottom of my make up bag)
Literally, the only instructions are to paint the stones you want painted and viola
Wham Bam Thank you Ma'am!

H&M Fall 2011 Luxe

I am in no way ready for fall or winter coats or boots, as my spring shoe collection has barely seen the light of day. But I came across the H&M Fall 2011 Lookbook over the weekend and was just so impressed with textures and styling of their upcoming pieces. I love the pin straight hair and dark lips, the dark jewel tones and luxe looking materials they'll be using. And true to H&M form all items will retail for under $199. Hey, always need something to look forward to, right?

The Great Sock Debate Part II- Solved!

So I was originally planning to wear this outfit with tights. But finally the weather in NYC blossomed into something beautiful and I just couldn't bear to stuff my legs into another pair of tights after months and months spent in them. So last night I decided to take a trip to JCPenney on my way home to find just the right sock! I tried this look with both a light tan and a heathered navy sock. I think the tan works better. I have to say I'm pretty happy with the outcome and my heels are much more comfortable with the soft sock on. Part of me even feels like a little girl without the ruffles on her socks. What do you think?

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

I had the pleasure of visiting The Metropolitan Museum this weekend and checking out the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit. It was easily the most stunning thing I've ever seen in a museum (and I have been to my fair share of museums, galleries and exhibits).

I went there specifically to see this show but was not at all prepared for how blown away I would walk out. From the first piece I saw, my breath was quite literally taken away. At several points in the show my jaw dropped to the floor and I had no words for what I was feeling.

The exhibit was expertly curated from the music to the lighting to the room structure. Throughout the show were McQueen quotes displayed on the walls and alongside the pieces that just enhanced each look and in one room were TV screens showing various runway shows.

The exhibit runs through July 31st. It is an absolute must see for anyone that is able to make it to The Met.
